Sclerotherapy.
Assessment and treatment of spider veins and varicose veins.
Concern regarding the appearance of spider veins and varicose veins on the legs is a common complaint in both men and women. Often these veins are unsightly and in the case of varicose veins can cause discomfort such as aching legs, and changes to the colour and texture of the skin.
Spider veins and small varicose veins can often be treated with a simple in clinic procedure called sclerotherapy. After taking a history and assessing your leg veins, which may include referral for an ultrasound scan, we can assess your suitability for treatment.

Sclerotherapy involves injecting veins with a chemical agent which causes the lining of the veins to “swell” and over a course of treatments, causes the veins to constrict and seal over. As with most medical treatments, the risks and benefits of the treatment will vary between patients. Your doctor will discuss these thoroughly at your initial consultation so you can make an informed decision about whether this is the right treatment for you.
Depending on how extensive your veins are, each treatment lasts approximately 45 minutes, and a course of 3-4 treatments may be required.
